Feb. 5th, 2011 08:07 pmJust blew seven hours playing FF9, only to... do a bunch of sidequests involving Chocobos, friendly enemies and catching frogs for Quina. I'm pretty much done with the Chocobo sidequest and I threw a Diamond at a friendly Yan for fun and superboss-fighting profit, but I'm only up to about 55 frogs and therefore have a long way to go toward Quina's Ultimate Weapon. *FACEPLANT*
After playing FF7, FF8 and FF9 back-to-back-to-back, it really makes me appreciate FF6 even more for not having all of these ridiculous busywork sidequests. Like, yeah, Chocobo Racing in FF7 and Chocobo Hot and Cold in FF9 are fun every now and again, but not seven hours worth of it!
Overall, I've taken a good ten hour detour from the main plot of FF9 after getting the Hilda Garde 3 just to do all of this crap! In terms of the storyline, though, I'm about to go to Ipsen's Castle, and I originally stopped playing FF9 the first time after completing that dungeon. In terms of abilities, Zidane's got all of his Skills, Garnet and Eiko have all of their White Magic and Eidolons (save Ark), Vivi has all of his Black Magic except Doomsday, Quina has all of hir Blue Magic except Doom, and I think Freya and Amarant are missing two Dragon and Flair skills each.
I think this file was also the first time that I saw the ATE with Amarant and Freya in Treno while Zidane is off in the Tetra Master tournament? Because I definitely would have remembered that if I saw it the first time. Freya laughing in Amarant's face was a surprisingly cold thing for HER of all people to do, damn. I'm still a huge Amarant fanboy, also. Tall pale loner dude who hates kids and willingly calls himself "Flaming"? I feel a connection or five there. :P Bonus points for being an in-battle hybrid of two awesome classes in terms of characters, what with FF1 Monk, Yang, Sabin, Tifa, Zell, Shadow and Edge being Monks or Ninjas too.
Onward to new territory!
